ASFE Peer Reviewed 2002

PhotoCumberland Geotechnical Consultants is a full service consulting geotechnical engineering firm with in-house capabilities to provide test borings, engineering analyses and reports, AutoCAD design, laboratory soils, concrete and geosynthetics testing, and construction observation / construction materials testing. Formed at the beginning of 1990, we are currently in our 18th year of service specializing in the geotechnical branch of civil engineering.

PhotoOur staff of 18 currently includes principal engineers, geologists and senior technicians with 15 to 38 years of experience in the geotechnical engineering field. Résumés of principal personnel of this office are available for your review. We feature Masters Degree level educational background amongst our Registered Professional Engineers and Professional Geologists on staff, and maintain licensure in the States of Pennsylvania, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia.

PhotoWe have served as geotechnical engineering consultant to a large variety of clients, both public and private, in the course of our experience including: architects, engineers, contractors, developers, utilities, institutions, school districts, military, municipalities and private enterprise covering commercial and industrial entities. Our collective project experience is broad based covering: buildings, highways, power plants, parking garages, bridges, standpipes, shopping centers, parks, communication towers, dams and levees, water and waste water treatment plants, ground water studies, pipelines, retaining structures, sinkhole remediations, ground improvement projects, mining studies, machine foundations, water supply projects, wind energy projects, historical renovations, landfills, slope stability analyses and distressed structure/foundation studies. A partial profile of our specific project experience can be viewed here.

PhotoWe also have extensive specialized expertise in the civil and geotechnical engineering aspects of solid waste landfill design, permitting and construction; and with design, construction and laboratory/field testing of geosynthetics. In addition to our ongoing civil/geotechnical project work in Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia, we are involved with landfill projects across the state of Pennsylvania along with past and current projects located in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Maine, Maryland, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Virginia and West Virginia. Thus, we have no geographical limitations for the provision of our services.  A list of solid waste landfills with which we have experience ranging from laboratory testing only to complete design, permitting and construction quality assurance services can be viewed here.

PhotoBy offering comprehensive consulting geotechnical engineering services in-house we can provide a scope of services to our clients throughout the project development, design and construction phases. PhotoThese services can include the programming and execution of a field subsurface investigation via test borings; laboratory testing of recovered soil and rock samples; engineering analyses of the results of these field and laboratory studies and preparation of a report containing recommendations for site preparation, foundation design and earthwork/foundation construction; pavement design; design of in situ soil improvement projects when necessary such as sinkhole remediations and grouting programs including the preparation of AutoCAD construction drawings and bid specifications; and construction materials testing along with field observation of construction. A further description of the individual geotechnical engineering services that we render can be found throughout this web site.

For projects with specific needs outside our areas of expertise, we frequently team with other specialty consultants such as land surveyors, civil engineers, structural engineers, landscape architects, hydrogeologists, geophysicists, mining engineers, etc. to provide a complete scope of complementary services to meet the needs of our clients.
